GLITTERING IMAGES

Paintings large and small, drawings, sculptures and installations that explore our collective love of myth. Some have Swarovski crystals or gold or silver leaf so they shimmer before our eyes like myths shimmer in our memory. Past and present exist simultaneously in our minds. I study archaic ruins of the ancient Mediterranean, the source of our Western culture, situating these ruins in a horizontal format. This provided such a wonderful space for exploring real and imagined objects and forms. This accelerated my interest in layering one image over another, in actual time as if layering historic moments. I add designs from Greek vases, astronomical references – star charts and nebula – and contemporary icons like Marilyn Monroe. She is Nefertiti for our time, mysterious in life and death; so my paintings create a world continuous from then to now.
